Why Double Cleansing is Your Best Friend

double face cleansing

Best friends have each other’s back, and in this case your face.

What?
Double cleansing may sound perplexing, but in reality, it is exactly what it sounds like.

Step one: cleanse
Step two: cleanse again

Depending on your skin type you can customize your double cleansing experience. If you have dry skin you may benefit more from a creamy cleanser like Apricot Mango Cleansing Milk. For oily skin a gel cleanser like Orange You Jelly Cleanser or Lychee Willow Bark Deep Clean will have you feeling balanced in no time. Combination skin can benefit from all of the cleansers. If you’re a product enthusiast having two different cleansers on hand might already be your norm. In that instance your first portion of your cleanse is best done with a creamy cleanser followed by a gel cleanser for the second cleanse.

Why?

While cleansing twice in a row may seem redundant it’s an integral step in your evening home care regimen. The first cleanse removes makeup, sunscreen, and any debris from the day. The second cleanse is a deep clean for your pores and prepares your skin to take full advantage of your evening products and increasing their efficacy. Even if you don’t wear makeup double cleansing is still essential to remove the oil and sweat you naturally produce. For anyone who has received a professional facial treatment you may have noticed this is what your esthetician does. What happens in the skincare club doesn’t always stay in the skincare club 😉

Who?

If you have skin, you’re in! Everyone can benefit from a double cleanse at night so whether you’re a skincare minimalist, essentialist or enthusiast give it a try. We promise this simple step will make a BIG difference.

When?

Double cleansing is most beneficial at night before you go to bed. Your skin heals and regenerates while you sleep which means the products you put on at night make a significant impact in your skincare journey. In the morning a gentle cleanse (just once) is sufficient. During the day your skin is in defense/protection mode so focusing on antioxidant support and sun protection is key!

Things to consider:
– Make sure your hands are clean… dare we call this a triple cleanse?

– Makeup wipes don’t count as a cleanse.

– If using a cleansing device (Foreo, Clarisonic, etc) use during the second cleanse

– If you have sensitive skin be mindful of water temperature and consider using a soft washcloth to pat your skin dry.
